My One Word, Guest Post by Jordan Knipp

As a soprano in the Lindsey Wilson College Singers, I have been given the wonderful opportunity to go on four Spring tours as well as two "bonus tours," even getting to perform on the stage of Carnegie Hall!  I have been given the chance to travel to sixteen different states with amazing individuals performing music for many people.

Our recently completed tour was so incredible.  From my perspective this trip had a quality I can describe in one word.  My one word for Singers' Tour 2019 is JOY

Joy is a feeling that is hard to find these days.  Joy is finding peace with the little things and being able to enjoy time with the people one is around.  Our tour was one that was filled with joy.

There were several moments when things didn't go according to plan.  For instance, there was the incident when our luggage was left in the rain at the airport and most of our concert attire was soaked.  No one complained or resented having to wear our khakis and pullovers for a concert.  We did what was required and we did it with joy.  Other such moments were when only a few people came to our concert.  It did not matter.  We sang with joy at every performance.  And, we also found joy when we had a sanctuary that was filled with people.

Often we look for joy in all the wrong places.  We look at objects and hope that they fill us with joy even though we know it won't.  We look to other people in hopes that they too bring us joy.  But, the only thing that can bring us true joy is God.

The reason the LWC Singers have joy is because we sing for an Audience of One.  We sing for God.  We do everything together with the purpose of bringing other people closer to God.  When we lose sight of why we do what we do, then we begin to lose our joy.  The joy that God has given to us.

I encourage you to hold onto the joy that is found in God and with others who love God.  Will you let the world rob you of your joy or will you celebrate the joy that God has given to you?
