In The Neighborhood

During the fall semester The Center for Faith & Culture at Lindsey Wilson College will share our discussions for the upcoming Sunday's Scripture readings listed in the Liturgical Calendar. Our first conversation centered around the concept that these seemingly random passages - readings from the Old Testament, a Psalm, an epistle, and a gospel - have a thread that ties them together.

Whether for personal devotion, Bible-study group, or sermon, it is our hope that these thoughts will, at least on occasion, be the icing-on-the-cake you need when engaging these passages. With that in mind, here is our discussion for Sunday, September 6.

The readings: Exodus 12:1-14; Psalm 149; Romans 13:8-14; and Matthew 18:15-20.

In the Passover description, we had not previously noticed the detail of verse 4: "If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor..." Then, Romans 13 includes, "love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Psalm 149:4 states that the Lord "crowns the humble with salvation."

Reaching out to our neighbors - in small, gentle, humble ways - reveals God in our midst.
